Opal Edith "Edie" Webb

Opal Edith “Edie” Webb, of Floyd, went to her Heavenly Home on November 8, 2013 at the age of 94.

Edie was born November 5, 1919 to the late Oscar Ames, and Lyona Quessenberry Webb. She was preceded in death by seven sisters and two brothers.

Edie was a very devoted Christian whose love for God was reflected through the life she led. In her younger years she wanted to be a missionary. Although she never went to a foreign mission field Edie was quite the home missionary. She was the caregiver for her parents as well as other family members. After the death of her mother she worked as a nurse’s aide at Community Hospital of the Roanoke Valley. Edie was a prayer warrior who prayed for her family daily. She touched many lives through her card ministry. She was very faithful in mailing cards to cheer and encourage others. Edie was a faithful member of Floyd Baptist Church where she had been a member since the 1930’s.

Left to cherish her memory are her nieces and nephews: Estelle K. Simmons, Walter Knowles, Harman Dickerson, Deronda D. Thomas, Julius Dickerson, Joseph Akers, Frances W. Helms, Thelma W. Via, Histon Tolbert, James Tolbert, Mary T. Parks, and Steven Tolbert. Numerous great; great-great, and great-great-great nieces and nephews.

A memorial service celebrating Edie’s life will be conducted on Saturday, November 23, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Floyd Baptist Church. Edie’s final resting place will be with her parents and family at Topeco Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Edie’s memory may be made to the Annie Armstrong or Lottie Moon mission funds of Floyd Baptist Church, P. O. Box 58, Floyd, VA 24091.
