
Larry Ward Mannon
Larry Ward Mannon was born on March 12, 1955 to Carnice and Betty Mannon in Radford, Virginia. He made a commitment to follow Christ at the age of 12. He was a talented athlete, lettering in four sports at Floyd County High School. He graduated from Radford University and began teaching business and coaching at Radford High School in 1981. For 25 years he worked with students and athletes, helping them grow academically, athletically and as people. He won state championships in boys’ tennis and girls’ basketball. But perhaps his greatest legacy is as a loyal friend. On October 12, 2012 after a long illness, he died at the age of 57.
Those who will cherish his memory include his wife of 18 years, Jamie; his daughters, Carly and Lindsey; his son, Tate; his mother, Betty; his siblings, Lester, Dale and Vicki Mannon Morris; a faithful friend , Frank Taylor; and a host of extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Carnice.
Services will be 5 p.m. Sunday, October 14, 2012 at Maberry Funeral Home with Mr. Dale Mannon officiating. The family will receive friends 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow at The Mannon Family Cemetery. The family would like to thank everyone who extended kindness to Larry during his illness, especially to the nurses and attendants at Skyline Nursing Home for their care.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to the Radford High School Foundation for a Sportsmanship award made in Larry’s name, to be presented annually at the Senior Sports Banquet. Memorials may be sent to Radford High School Foundation, P.O. Box 2823, Radford, VA 24143.
