
Vernon Edgar Baker
Vernon Edgar Baker, 74, of Floyd, went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 5, 2009. He was born on February 11, 1935 to the late Early and Alma Baker. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Lou H. Baker; Two loving sons and daughter in laws, David and Winona Baker of Floyd and Darryl and Lisa Baker of Willis; Grandchildren, Stacy Baker of Floyd, Andrea Sehen and husband Allen of Floyd, Ryan Baker of Floyd, and Colt Baker of Floyd; Three brothers, Bill Baker of Christiansburg, VA, C.B. Baker of Christiansburg, VA, Phillip Baker of Dublin, VA; and One sister, Connie Boothe of Augusta SC; Several nieces and nephews; and many, many friends. He was a faithful member of Topeco Church of the Brethren. Mr. Baker was owner/operator of Harris & Baker Furniture Corp. in Floyd for 45 years. He was also an active member in Topeco Church of the Brethren, Virlina District of the Brethren, Gideon Ministry, New River Corrections Ministry, Ruritan Club, Floyd County Merchants & Businessmen’s Association & past member of the Floyd County School Board. He played an active roll in community development. He was an avid antique car collector and a member of Great Oaks Country Club.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 8, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Topeco Church of the Brethren with Rev. Mike Varner and Rev. Ralph Duncan officiating. Interment will follow at Topeco Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday, June 7, 2009 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Topeco Church of the Brethren.
