Fredrick Henry Charlier

Fred (Fredrick Henry) Charlier of Willis passed away Feb. 26, 2010, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Fred was born Aug. 29, 1930 near Crescent City, Illinois. He was the second son and child of Denis Francois ( Frank) and Christina (Boomgarden) Charlier. He was united in marriage to Marjorie Hora on Aug. 17, 1951. They later divorced. He is survived by four daughters & three sons Nancy (Jack) Ray, JoAnn Charlier & Nadine (Vic) Slovack of Musatine, Iowa, and Elaine (Lonnie) LaRue of Durant, Iowa. Charles (Dixie) Charlier of Wilton Iowa, Jerry (Jane) Charlier of McKiney, Texas, and Danny (Karen) Charlier of Williamsburg, Virginia. Two brothers, Wilbur (Eileen) Charlier of Minonk, Illinois

and Louis (Marilyn) Charlier of Metamora, Illinois. A very special friend, Alta Vrooman of Williamsburg, Virginia. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Marie Austin and a brother Francis Charlier. Fred was orphaned early in life. Fred joined the Army in 1951 and was a medic in Korea during the Korean conflict. He also served as an air craft mechanic in Vietnam during the conflict there. After retiring from the military he worded in many different jobs from wood working to mechanics and may other things in between. He was a man of many talents and much knowledge. He was always willing to give anyone and everyone a hand and share his knowledge and expertise.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday March 3, 2010 at Maberry Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Dalton officiating. Military Rites by V.F.W. Post #7854 & American Legion Post #127. Interment to follow in the Blue Ridge Cemetery. Family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Tuesday March 2, 2010 at the funeral home. Arrangements by Maberry Funeral Home, Inc.
