
Carrie Virginia Showalter Duncan
Carrie Virginia Showalter Duncan, 89 of Christiansburg, our precious mother was picked up by Jesus and his angels and carried to her heavenly mansion that had been prepared for 89 years on Tuesday, September 11, 2012. With only minimal eye sight here on earth; she is capturing the beauty she has missed and more; flowers, trees, birds, butterflies, and lots of loved ones and friends welcoming her home from this life of suffering. She enjoyed life going to church, working in garden and flowers, spending time with her family and friends. After raising her family she obtained her driver’s license, got her GED, went to school and received her nursing aide and homemaker aide certificate the working with the Agency on Aging for countless hours; enjoying every moment. She was always cooking for everyone that stopped by and never met at stranger. She had great faith in God that he would protect and take care of her while living alone. All of us will miss her cheerful morning and afternoon calls and encouragement and prayers.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Asa Wyatt Duncan; her father and mother, Giles Henry Showalter and Clona Belle Huff Showalter; brother, Esley Showalter; aunts and uncles; and still born son; and a great granddaughter Courtney Cole.
Survivors include her four children; Robert Dale Duncan, Dennis Giles Duncan and wife Dawn, Loretta Duncan Ford and husband Daniel, James Asa Duncan and wife Linda, six grandchildren; Marsha Duncan Adkins, Christina Calloway, Brian Duncan, Questa Duncan Sain, Jammie Duncan and Bryce Duncan, fifteen great grandchildren; Ryan Duncan, Derrick Duncan, Asa Adkins, Maggie Adkins, Hannah Lytton, Tabitha Lytton, Daniel Duncan, Brittney Duncan, Drake Duncan, Isaac Duncan, Samuel Duncan, Savanna Duncan, Christopher Oberry, Brianna Taylor, Joshua Duncan, 2 great-great grandchildren; Jereni Duncan, Ashley Oberry, also 8 step grandchildren , three sisters; Effie Showalter Dalton of Christiansburg, Lillian Showalter Quesenberry of Willis, and Lorene Showalter Marshall of Indian Valley Road. Also, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends and neighbors she loved. Also, numerous caregivers and nurses that did a terrific and loving job during mom’s illness and special neighbor that she loved so much Weston Allen.
Funeral Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 15, 2012 at the Indian Valley Church of God with Rev. Ronnie Duncan and Rev. Kenneth Poston officiating. Interment to follow in the Showalter Cemetery.
Family will receive friends two hours prior to the service from noon to 2:00 p.m.
