Harlis W. Moles

Harlis W. Moles “Popaw”, 87 of Floyd, passed away on Saturday October 15, 2011 at his home. He was born on May 6, 1924 in Willis, VA. , the son of Eura & Esley Moles. He was preceded in death by his wife Lafone & an infant son Michael. Also preceding him were his brothers & sisters Ervin, Kermit, Rita, and Geneva.

Harlis was a WWII veteran having served in Luzon. He received the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with Bronze Service Star; Good conduct Medal; and WWII Victory Medal. He was a member of company C the Rangers Infantry Battalion.

Harlis spent all of his working years in road construction and retired from Branch & Associates. After retirement he enjoyed his daily ride to Willis and working in his yard.

Surviving are his daughters and son-in-law Janie & Jimmy Spence of Willis, VA, Joyce Howery of Floyd, VA, son Charles Moles and special friend Dawn Thompson of Max Meadows, VA

Grandchildren; Jason Howery & Nicole Lawson, Gretchen & Tommy Gleim, Neeley & Philip Russell.

Great Grandchildren; Jeffrey Howery, Mason Howery, Sophia Russell, Kendra Lawson.

Brother & Sister-in-law Alvin & Frances Moles of Meadows of Dan, VA, sister; Glenna Mabery, Willis, VA, Brother-in-law & sister-in-law Jimmy & Brenda Pettry, Potomac, MD, Sisters-in-law; Margie Moles of Floyd. VA and Emma Mae Moles of Willis, VA.

Special niece Brenda Gallimore and special family friend Shirley Griggs and his little dog Brittany.

The family would like to thank Sherry Reed and Carilion NRV Hospice for their special care and kindness.

Funeral service will be held 7 p.m. Sunday, October 16, 2011 at Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Dalton officiating. Family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. prior to the service. Graveside services with Military Rites by Floyd V.F.W. Post # 7854 and American Legion Post # 127 well be held 11 a.m. Monday, October 17, 2011 at the Harris Cemetery.
