Julian Mitchell

Julian (Jack) Mitchell, of Shawsville, VA, formerly of Floyd County, VA passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2011. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lee D. Mitchell; son, Randy Mitchell; sister, Ardene Bond; and brothers, Charles and Hampton Mitchell.

Survivors include one son, Stephen Mitchell and wife Linda of MD; grandchildren, Heather M. Mills, and Heath Mitchell; great grandchildren, Ricky Mitchell and Alexander Mills; nieces, Katie Mitchell, Sue Nolen, Nancy Costigan; and nephews, Wayne, John, and Mike Mitchell.

A Veteran of the US Army, Jack loved to collect, buy, and sell old newspapers and documents. His “claim” to fame was that he had one of the largest newspaper collections in America.

Visitation will be Friday, May 6, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. with the funeral service following at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Maberry’s Funeral Home in Floyd with Rev. Richard Gregory officiating. Burial will be at Jacksonville Cemetery, Floyd, VA.
