John Q. Holstein

John Q. Holstein 84 of Canton, Ohio and more recently of Lakeland, Fla., passed away Jan. 30, 2010 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center following a sudden illness. He was born April 6, 1925 in West Virginia. He was in the Third Armored Division of the US Army and was wounded serving his country in World War II. John was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and Trinity Gospel Temple.

Preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Avis Ilene Holstein in 2007 and son Marshall S. Carroll in 2005. Survived by daughter Marlene (Wayne) Lowe, son, John L. Holstein of Canton, son Dawson (Elaine) Crews of Roanoke, Va., son Wayne Holstein of Savannah, Ga., and granddaughter Melody Dyer of Canton; several grandchildren; and great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews and numerous friends.

Special thanks to Thannah and Harry Redford for their love and support."Dad"and "Papa" will be greatly missed. His smile made him a friend to everyone he met.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Disabled American Veterans or Trinity Gospel Temple.

Calling hours are 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Friday Feb. 5, 2010 with the funeral at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010 at the Maberry Funeral Home. Burial will take place in Duncans Chapel Cemetery in Alum Ridge, Va.
