
Alton Harmon Weddle
Alton Harmon Weddle, Sr. 87, of Willis, VA, passed away on Thursday July 1, 2010 at Skyline Manor Nursing Home.
A World War II veteran, Alton was a well-known barber for sixty-four years operating from the Floyd Barber Shop and in later years in a barber shop located near his home.
Alton loved bluegrass music and played the banjo for seventy-five years. His favorite pastime was playing music with friends and neighbors, and for community events. Alton was a member of the Topeco Church of the Brethren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva Moles Weddle; one son, John David Weddle; his parents, John R. and Leeta Weddle; and one brother, D.T. Weddle.
Alton is survived by three children, one daughter, Darnell Harris of Willis, VA; two sons and their wives, Steve Weddle and Sandy of Raleigh, NC and Tony Weddle and Vona of Willis, VA. Five Grandchildren include Larry Wayne Harris, Brandon Weddle, Christie Weddle, Tracie Young, all of Willis and Eric Weddle of Raleigh, NC; two great grandchildren, John Robert Harris and Tyler Young, both of Willis; one Sister Kathleen Jamison, of Floyd.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 3, 2010 at Topeco Church of the Brethren with Rev. Mike Varner officiating. Interment will follow in the Topeco Cemetery with Military Rites by Hillsville V.F.W. Post 1115. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, July 2, 2010 at the Maberry Funeral Home.
